What therapy should do

A space to talk — and tools for life outside the room.

Talking matters. So does learning practical ways to handle anxiety, school stress, difficult emotions, relationships and the hard moments between sessions.

For parents

Teens need privacy. Parents need clarity.

We explain from the beginning how confidentiality works, what your role as a parent can be, and how safety concerns are handled. The exact approach depends on the teen, their capacity and consent, and the clinical situation.

Questions parents ask

What should I know before we start?

Clear answers to the questions that can make starting therapy feel uncertain.

What if my teen doesn’t want therapy?

They don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what to say. The first step is often seeing whether they feel comfortable with the therapist. If you’re unsure how to approach it, a parent consultation can help.

How involved are parents?

Teenagers need enough privacy for therapy to feel like their own space. Before therapy begins, we explain how confidentiality works, what your role can be, how communication is handled and what happens when safety is a concern.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a chance for the teen and therapist to get to know each other, talk about what has been happening, and begin deciding what would be useful to work on.

What if the therapist isn’t a good fit?

Fit matters. A free consultation can help you choose where to start, and we can talk through next steps if the first fit doesn’t feel right.

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?

Yes. Clear offers in-person therapy in Toronto’s Beaches and online therapy across Ontario.

Do you offer direct billing?

Yes. We offer direct billing to participating insurance providers when eligible. Receipts are also provided for insurance claims. Coverage varies by plan.

A simple first step

Not sure where to start? Start with a conversation.
